15th 2008 - "Sitting pretty" |

Birding is such that you can sit for days
and see very little and then all at once nature puts on a marvellous
show. My Nuthatches are very unpredictable. Sometimes they come in once
or twice then disappear for the rest of the day but sometimes like today
the pair of them where in and out all day long. |

Nuthatches have this distinctive little
whislte that is similar to tits but with a slight twang to it. Before
they drop to the feeders they sit in the tree at the side and I cant
always see them but I know they are there because I can hear them. I
wish I could predict which perch they would fly too just as accurately. |

| Most of the time they go on the perches
were there is loose food but occassionally they will visit the nut feeder.
This particular time is only the second time I have seen them do this. |

As well as the Nuthatches I
also had good views of one of my other favourite birds today. Two Long
tailed tits have paired up and and have started coming down to feed
on my fat balls. They really are very tame but Im still not very good
at photographing them. Could do with setting up some less cluttered
perches for them. At times it was difficult to decide which birds I
should point my camera at, the nuthatches or the long tails? |

Also got a fleeting glimpse of a redwing
as a large flock flew through the woods. There are often alot around
but are never close enough to photograph. |

and of course my coal tits never let me
down. They are always here. All in all a pretty good day today. |
