26th 2007 - "Peace at last!" |

Since friday the couoncil have been hacking
away at the woodpeckers favourite tree with a chainsaw and scaring all
the birds away. They finally left early afternoon today but the birds
are still very wary. Anyway the sun was great so I thought I would just
sit and see what happens. It was good to see that the nuthatches werent
far away..... |

...and not far behind were the coal tits.
Over the weekend I had taken the wheelbarrow into the woods and collected
some new perches covered in moss and moved the bird table closer hoping
for some flight shots but to date I am just too slow.

For the first time the female Greenfinch
from a pair nesting nearby visited the table. The male displaying nearby
and looking magnificant visited briefly but was too nervous to stay.
I am hoping he will return for he is beautiful. |

Activity was still very slow
though and I had to be very patient for what I eventually got. Last
but not least of course a robin.... |
