March 31st 2007 - "Nest building" |
| |
Today it really feels like spring has stepped
up a gear. The birds are busy nest building. A pair of Long tailed tits
constantly flit backwards and forwards and emerge repeatedly from behind
the fence with beaks crammed full of moss and feathers. A pair of Carrion
crows have also started nest building in a large tree very close by. |

Once again the Long tails are in a difficult
position to photograph. I can hear them calling and see them close and
it is very frustrating. Then I realise that there is also a small flock
around and they suddenly they fly in and are everywhere. They have certainly
found my fat balls. One bird lands within twelve feet of me sat in clear
view on my best perch. I click and I know I am out of focus. No more
chances. The bird has gone and the air turns blue!! In reality I think
I am parked too close to photograph these birds really effectively. |

The Nuthatch pair must also be busy. I
could hear them calling in the woods but only one bird made one very
quick dash into the station all morning. |

| |
The female Woodpecker was around but she
also didnt come down to feed. I had to be content with trying to find
her amongst the branches. |

The greattits are certainly nesting in
the nestbox as they vigorously defend it against other tits. There are
quite a few pairs around and they spend alot of time chasing one another
but they are no easier to get close to. |

Bluetits are too easy to photograph here.
One even came and sat on the table that the Chaffinches like to perch
on. |

Some blackbirds that come in are very tame
and others are wary. This one was certainly keeping his distance. |
