2nd 2008 - "What a Carri on" |

Crows seem to be the dominant bird on my
allotment of late. The woodland Magpies have taken over the feeder territory
and are becoming bolder. Two days running a pair of Jays have been giving
me some wonderful views but of course disappear as soon as I fetch my
camera. |

A pair of Carrion crows nest in a nearby
high tree. They are very wary birds and rarely give clear views. Such
was my surprise therefore when I looked up and found one sitting on
the fence looking down at me. Holding my breath I waited, hoping that
he would come alittle closer. |

Cursing that the light wasnt
better my prayers were at least answered when not one but two crows
flew down and approached strutting confidently across the grass. Amazingly
bold they seemed totally unconcerned by my presence, feeding greedily
and I got some lovely close views of a bird that is normally so shy. |

I havent seen the Nuthatches for over a
week now. I think the female is now sitting on eggs but I have been
lucky enough to start getting them visitng the feeders in my own garden
back home so I am not deprived from seeing them. Lots of tits around
as normal and the robins are being very secretive. I just know they
are nesting somewhere nearby.... |
