"Formation flying "

Back at martinmere and once again flight shots are the target for the days shooting. First though I wanted to check out the Janet Kier hide to see if I could see the brambling that has been around for the last week. There is alot of small bird activity. A dozen or more goldfinches can be heard fighting for position over the seed feeders and reed buntings flit everywhere. Light is poor but I rarely sit and watch woodland birds so I enjoy the busy activity going on all around. Greenfinches, Chaffinches, robins, blue, great and coal tits and a large flock of Long tailed tits descend calling constantly to one another. All busy, busy busy and a real delight. Sadly there is no sign of the brambling despite it being reported later in the day but I am not too disappointed.

Light conditions are too poor to inspire photography very much so I soon head out back to the mere. This time I head for the opposite end to usual for yet more changing backgrounds. The weather is still very windy and I worry that the swans will not do much flying. Unusually today there is a large flock feeding in the field at the back of the mere. Many birds can be seen flying off the water to graze but they are too far away for any decent photographs.

So after sitting in a very drafty and cold hide with no fly bys I head back to the main mere. Here there is alot more activity.
