"A
golden day" |
| |
|
|
Today I believe we were luckier
than most of the people in the country as the north west enjoyed
the best of the sunshine. Visited Mere sands once again looking
for the kingfisher and sat in the hide in the sunshine it was very
relaxing indeed. Sadly though, apart from a very fast flash past
the kingfisher once again did not put in an appearnace. Not to be
downhearted though as a visit to the feeding station did produce
some interesting birds once again. |

I seem tobe doing rather well
for Song thrushes lately as I have seen quite a few. Usually they stay
in the shadows but this one came out in the sun showing off his golden
colours to best effect.

The water rail yet again put
in several appearances and looked very striking in the sun. |

The sun even makes the background
colours glow providing a wonderful backdrop for this male reed bunting. |

The long tailed tits were more
elusive today and kept to a more moderate distance. The one time when
they did come close I had to be content with just a couple of photographs
as my battery took that precise moment to lose its charge, typical!

This photo I add because I
thought it was such an unusual pose. When I first saw it it had its
head pointing straight up wards and he stood like that for a full thirty
seconds or so. As far as I could tell there were no other blackbirds
nearby so I do not know what the purpose of the pose was.

Another black coloured bird that looked
good today was the coot. With their jet black plumage and ruby red eyes
they looked particularly good contrasted with the golden straw colour
of the reeds. Also their reflections added an extra touch to the composition. |
