"A
young visitor" |
| |
The mild sunny weather from
the weekend continues so I make a very quick visit to see if I can see
the kingfisher. I havent seen him for a few weeks and I have no idea
if he is still there. After an hour of standing in the area I know he
likes to visit I neither hear nor see him though that doesnt mean that
he isnt there. I have spoken to a few birders who come here and it seems
I am th eonly person that has ever seen it. There may not be any kingfisher
here but there were a few other visitors today. |

As ever there were a couple of dozen
tufted ducks here today. It looks like there are quite a few juveniles
in with them.

The male Mute swan continues
to be lost. I cant find anyone that knows what happened to him. Today
there is a young non breeding swan hanging out close to the lone female
and her two cygnets. He is ringed and so I get his number. He is a second
year bird that was ringed in Burrs country Park, Bury which is not too
far from here. Recently I saw two non breeding swans driven off by the
female but this bird is being tolerated and looks completely at ease.

OK not much time today so I
trot down to the far end to see if I can pick up the juvenile Great
crested grebe. Scanning the water on the way down picks up nothing of
interest. Sure enough he is down in his usual spot fishing but he refuses
to cooperate and very quickly swims off into the middle of the lake
to fish. Oh well there is always tomorrow.....
