Not all the dragonflies around
were Common darters. Plenty of Migrant hawkers could also be seen flying
high above the meadow. When they came down to bask in the sun they would
hang in the trees like coloured jewels.

Another irridescent beauty was
the Azure Damselfly. Down on the pond they could easily be seen mating
and egg laying.

September is also the season for the
Cranefly. I have to say these are not my favourite insect but after
looking more closely at them i was amazed at the subtle colours they
have.

Towards the end
of the day when I had darters dancing before the eyes I yearned for
something different to photograph. Almost straight away my prayers were
answered. It wasnt rare but it was certainly different. A common green
shieldbug and a truely fascinating little critter that ended the day
for me quite nicely.
