"Determined"
|
| |
Today saw me going up to Moses
gate very late in the afternoon. The female Black swan was sitting on
the nest and the male was in nest building mode. He seems to have a
fixation for the large twigs and branches that seem to be sunk around
the nest. |
| |
|
| |
| Such was his enthusiasm
to move some of the branches that the female got hit several times.
She seemed totally indifferent to his efforts. At no point did there
ever seem any method to his madness. The sticks merely got picked up
and flung somewhere else. |

They seem to spend
most of their time pulling up vegetation and just dumping it somewhere
else. Rarely do they take any back to the nest. Still no sign of any
cygnets so I leave them for another day. |

As the evening draws to a close
I take a look at my grebes. The chicks are still doing well and still
being kept over at the nest. The male takes food and the photo below
is the best I can hope for at the moment. They are still too far away. |

I did have some luck though.
The male found a good school of small perch near to where I was sitting
and came back several times to catch them giving me some good views.
The only problem was catching him above the surface! |
