Moorhen
The warm sunshine is bringing the Brown Hawkers out to lay their eggs in the water. These huge dragonflies are most impressive to watch and I just have to sit quiet and hope the one lands somewhere close by. As well as hawkers there are also a few blue damselflies around but numbers are somewhat disappointing.

The juvenile Moorhens are also getting more confident and coming closer as they feeding amongst the lilypads. They may not be as showy as the adults but I think they have a real subtle beauty lacking in juvenile Coots.

Over on the main grass area people as usual are feeding tons of bread to the swans. There are other birds who also take advantage. I managed to get close to this wary magpie by hiding behind one of the park benches.

Black headed gull
There are plenty of Black headed gulls around but there is a real absense of big gulls like the leser black backs. This is good news for the grebe chicks as the larger gulls will readily eat them when still young. This cheeky carrion crow was also hungry but getting close to him was not easy. A good day today, very interesting with lovely weather.
