"One
misty morn" |

|
A very early, frosty December
morning and there are something in the region of 300 Whooper swans feeding
in the fields along Curlew Lane. The mist is swirling and the colours
are so subtle as to romantisize the whole scene. Getting out of the
car the swans are alert to me immediatly. I can hear their alarm call
passing from one bird to the next but I keep my distance and soon enough
they settle and carry on.... |

Keeping low I keep the foreground
soft to contrast with the harder lines of the birds. |

Early on bird numbers
on the mere were very low. I guess the swans were all out feeding and
this year duck numbers are well down. Good numbers of wigeon close in
is always a bonus but they are a very flighty bird. |

Spent an hour trying
to find a pleasing composition amongst the juvenile birds that showed
them as a family group. |

Early afternoon made my way
up to the top end of the reserve to photograph the large flocks of Whoopers
that would be returning for feeding. You cant always predict from which
direction they will come but today I wa snot to be disappointed. I wanted
to capture them flying across into the setting sun and this is never
an easy task. Was relatively pleased with my results. As always the
swans put up a spectacular display. |
