The swans are very tame and getting some good portrait shots of them is easy.

Another great bird partnership that has begun on the main lake is that of the Great crested grebes. For reasons i do not understand this pair always breed very late. Most grebes have had their families by now but this pair have been sitting a similar time as the black swans. They incubate eggs for 25-29 days so their chicks should be hatching any day now. As they grow older they become quite tame so I am hoping that if they do not fail like last year I will get some lovely shots of them.
Of course there are also other regulars on the lake. It is not often that you get to be able to identify specific birds like Coots but the bird below is easy as it has a white mark on either side of its head. I see it around often and he always makes me smile.
The Moorhens on the same back lake as the Black swans remind me of the African lilytrotters or Jacanas to give them their proper name. They are from a similar family and both sets of birds use thier long toes to walk easily over the tops of the lilypads. I thought the greens and yellows of the pads set the Moorhen off beautifully.
