The hot sunny weather continues
and Martinmere is ablaze with wildflowers. Carpets of yellow buttercups,
white ox eyed daisies and purple Self heal. When something looks
like this good you cant possibly not use it as a backdrop for all
the birds in the park. |

Moorhens look particularly
good amongst the buttercups. Lying low in the grass he watches me
alertly as he feeds. The yellow from the flowers seems to shine
up all around making it easier to get some detail in the dark pluamge
of the bird. I would have loved to find some young babies in the
flowers too but sadly it was not to be. |

Another bird
that looked surprisingly good amongst the flowers was the pigeon,
or to be more accurate, two pigeons. Now there is alot of snobbery
in bird photography and many would turn their nose up at the humble
pigeon but to my mind if a bird is performing in front of you and
looks beautiful then it makes it fair game. Here sat a pair of pigeons
necking and bonding. Then the female lowered herself in offering
and they mated. In the hot sun set amongst the pretty flowers what
could be more beautiful than that? |

By comparison the Shelducks
are complimented well by the white of the ox eyed daisies. |
