Morecombe bay

Redshank, knot and oystercatchers
Today the tide was to be quite high and the weather forecast was variable. On the drive up we encountered everything, sun, rain, hail but mercifully there is little wind and it is not too cold. Waiting for my kids made me late. I would have liked to have been there an hour before but arrived when the tide was already well up and the birds had gone to roost.

Morecombe Bay

Morecombe is situated on the northwest coast of Lancashire. Known for its fast rising tides that come in from an awkward angle it is a dangerous beach. The hills in the background above belong to the county of Cumbria and the Lake district. This photo was taken just after the tide had gone out.
Redshank roosting

This is an area that sees alot of Redshank, Dunlin, Turnstone, Knot and Oystercatcher. They roost up on the boulders se t up against coastal erosion. Redshank are notoriously wary birds and are not easy to get close to. With two birds though I got lucky and managed to creep up quite close to them.

Redshank

Tried for some redshank flight shots too but they were too far away really.
