"New beginnings - Me and my 30d"

Not expecting to receive my new camera until early next week I was amazed and delighted when it turned up this morning. After much research and with a desire to get a camera which was superior in every way to the 350d I decided upon the Canon 30d. Now it was time to take it on its first test run. So with some trepidation and not a great deal of time I took a trip to one of my local parks.

Over the last few months I had become very frustrated with the slow buffer speed on the 350d. Switching to raw meant this camera struggled to produce enough frames per second to keep up with the action shots that I wanted to take. The Canon 30d has 5fps. Watching the local Black headed gulls squabbling over sitting rights to the pondside posts I was delighted with the speed of this camera. My only problem was that I had come out without looking up how to program AI servo into my camera and so the action had to be taken on one spot. Not ideal but I managed. It was a lesson to learn the next time I was out.

and the action cropped in quite heavily. Today wasnt the best light but I thought the camera handled it well.

The Canon 30d also has very fast auto focusing which makes action and flight shots so much easier.
The auto focusing also locks on and keeps hold on moving birds particularly in dense foliage. This robin kept hopping about and was quite agitated but the af performed well. It is also impressively sharp. The heron below was photographed from at least 20 yards. With just his head visible this was quite a challenge for the af. The image is a huge crop and it stayed pin sharp all the way!

After the first hour with this camera I was very impressed. I loved the faster fps and the speed of the AF. I cannot wait to test drive it further!
