Today there was a real dynamic
feel to the park. It felt as though things were on the move and as if
anything could turn up or happen. The far carrying plead of the Great
crested grebe chicks instantly drew my attention and immediatly I noticed
that they were further than ever from the nest site and getting nearer
towards the edge. Growing strongly and getting braver indeed. As much
as I searched though I could only see two of the juveniles. |

In the bright light today they
look stunning. The sky is clear blue and reflects well in the deep tone
of the water. It offers a beautiful contrast to these striking birds.
They are still a way off and I dearly wish they would come closer. |

The adults though
can be very tame and will come right to the edge to do their fishing.
This adult bird has caught a small Pike. This fish did not make it onto
the juvenile menu as the adult gulped it down in one. That is one less
predator to worry about. After about an hour of watching the third juvenile
suddenly appeared and I could breath a sigh of relief. The light was
stunning out on the lake today. Seeing them altogether made my day. |
