Tess and her kittens

Sammie

Originally named Bruiser and thought to be a male she turned out to be female and was renamed Sammie. Here she is at 5 days old just as her eyes were beginning to open. For a few weeks Sammie had trouble with an infected eye as they easily get mucas and dirt in them, but cream from the vet sorted it eventually

Bruiser is by far the biggest and most vocal of all the kittens.Today at 13 days old I saw him stand on all fours before teetering and going back to a crawl. Blink and you would have missed it but it was certainly his first step!

2 weeks old (16th March 2009)

Ok Bruiser is now officially Sam. Noone but me likes Bruiser and they say it so doesnt suit him. Actually we are still undecided about the sex of this kitten but Sam will suits both sexes. He is now crawling very well and almost made it to the edge of the blankets today before turning back and going back to mum crying loudly. He still spends most of his time feeding and sleeping.

Sam has got some really sticky eyes so the vet gave me some ointment. When i first started out bathing his eyes he didnt like it but all he did was lay there crying. After a few times of applying the drops he really started to learn how to wriggle and fight back. His co ordination is very good and he makes his displeasure really felt. The drops do appear to be doing him some good though. His eyes are looking much brighter now. He is also being much more adventurous wandering to the edg eof his blanket. When I come near and say hello kits they all pop their heads up and look at me. If they are awake enough they even crawl over to see me. It really is the cutest thing. Below he is sunning himself.

The photo above shows his body colour though it doesnt show how much ginger he also has on him.

I always seem to photograph Sam with his mouth open. Maybe that is because he is the one that cries the most when he leaves his mum. He may be the biggest but he is also the softest.

Sam finally breaks free from the corner and puts his paws on the carpet! but its not long before he is tired again.
