Birding in Ibiza Greater Flamingoes |

Down in the south of the island right by
the airport is the town of Sal salines. Here there is a natural park
that consists of a number of salt lakes where salt is collected today
much like it was 2000 years ago. TheSalt lakes are home to wild Greater
Flamingoes and it was here that I was hoping at long last to get some
flight shots. |

I found three main flocks of flamingoes and they numbered several hundred birds in total. Sadly I was unable to get close to them but just seeing them in the wild was amazing. |

They appeared to have bred well this summer as there were plenty of juveniles around. (above) |

With their huge wings and long dangling legs coming
in to land takes a certain amount of finesse! |

But up in the air they are awesome... |
