Starlings are often given a bad press because of their noisy,
squabbly and greedy behaviour. They can come down to a bird table
and clear its contents in minutes leaving nothing for the smaller
birds. Photographically they are vastly underrated with many people
barely giving them a second glance. See them on a sunny day and you
will see a bird transformed from a drab spotty bird to a bird that
looks like he wears a cloak of shimmering jewels. Then give him some
interesting backdrops with complimentary colours and you have the
means to create pure magic. One weekend at the end of Septmeber 2006
I went to the coast looking for Starlings where they collect in their
thousands and what a wonderful day I had. The adults were in fine
plumage (below)
