November 2008 Martinmere - Come mid afternoon
early winter and the sun slowly starts to sink giving soft light cast
over the calm waters of the mere. Shelducks quietly sleeping on the
far banks start to stir from their lazy slumbers. Like all of the
birds they sense the shifting of the daylight hours and know that
very soon they will be fed. Three oclock arrives and the food is put
down. As one the Shelduck move in. Far from being shy they drop in
over the Whooper swans landing vertically and with precision in front
of the hide. Hovering they carefully select the place to land and
hungrily join the feast.
