"Swan perfect"

Martinmere November 2008 - At Martinmere you can only see those birds that approach from the front and sides. Many times Whooper swans will approach from behind and the first you know of it is when they literally fall from the sky. If you are lucky they will swoop round to the right and come in over the trees for a safer landing. Flying strongly from the fields when all of a sudden, at the time they instinctively know is right their power is pulled back and on long elegant wings they glide steadily down. Their strong paddle like feet brace the air slowing them down. Even as they come into land the beautiful formations they create in the sky are held until the very last moment. What fantastic birds these really are.
