A common butterfly instantly recogniseable from its scalloped wings. Most often found around the edges of woodland though during pre hibernation they will range wider into gardens looking for food. Plants such as nettles, hops and willow are used. Wingspan 50-64 mm. Females are larger than males and have a paler ground colour.
