Arctic Tern

Sterna paradisaea

Summer visitor from April to September and found wintering in Antarctic waters making this bird one of the longest migrant fliers of all. In the summer months most birds can be found on the coasts and islands of the north, with their largest colonies being in the north and west of Scotland. Mainly distinguished from the Common tern by its blood red bill that lacks the black tip. It is the most northernly breeding tern in the world. It feeds on a diet almost exclusively of fish. Length: 33-35cm
