Argentinian red Shoveler (Anas platalea) |
This species is native to the southern half
of South America and can be found on shallow lakes and pools with dense
reed beds, marshes and lagoons. The female is a typical brown but the
russet of the male below has a subtle attractiveness. Both have the
distinctive wide spatulate type bill of the shoveler with which they
dabble and sift aquatic plants and invertebrates in shallow water. |
