Australian Whiteeye

Also known as the Hardhead this ducks range is found throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea. A shy duck that requires specialised water conditions for breeding it is rarely kept in captivity. In the wild habitat destruction and swamp drainage has drastically contributed to the decline in numbers. Only the male (photo below) has the striking white eye. Breeding from one year old they build their nest amongst dense vegetation. The female lays 6-8 eggs and incubation takes 25-27days.
