Bar headed Goose

(Anser indicus)

Native to southeast Russia, northern India and western China. This bird breeds at high altitudes, beside high mountain lakes. It is also a high migratory flier as it has even been seen flying high above from the summit of Mount Everest. This duck has Crepuscular habits (feeds at dawn and dusk)grazing on wild plants and invertebrates. Length 30in. This is a very shy but very graceful goose.
 
 
 
 
Last year and this 2005 the barheaded pair at Martinmere produced 2 goslings.
