Black bellied whistling duck

(Dendrocygna autumnalis)

This is a bird native to the southern US states where it can be found beside streams and ponds lined with trees. It feeds on a diet of grain, grass seed and plants. Sexes are alike. This is one of my favourite Whistling ducks as it is so colourful. Normally whistling ducks are quite gregarious birds seen in large flocks, but even in a bird sanctuary it is unusual to see them solitary with other species of whistling ducks for company. The black bellied is front right, with the Cuban on the left and the white faced whistling duck behind.
