Black headed Duck

(Heteronetta atricapilla)

A south American species that lays its eggs in the nests of other ducks. These particularly include the Rosybill pochard and the Coot. When the chick has hatched it spends only a few hours in the nest before going off to fend for itself. The brood parents own eggs are not damaged. The males are the two in front of the photo below. The female is at the back.
