Himantopus himantopus

Related to the Avocet family these birds are mainly to be found breeding in southern and southeastern Europe, southern Asia and north Africa in marshes, shallow lakes and ponds. It is a social bird often found in small groups. Its diet consists of aquatic insects, but will also take molluscs and crustaceans. The birds in the photos below were photographed at San salenes, Ibiza.
 
 
Juvenile Stilts are mottled brown with pale legs.
