Blue winged Goose

(Cyanochen cyanopterus)

The Blue winged Goose is an endemic species of the highlands of Ethiopia, where it is common and widespread. This is quite a shy, small, neat looking goose that spends most of its time onland grazing. It occurs anywhere that there is abundant grassland but mainly on marshes, bog pools, swamps and streams.

As with most geese the sexes are alike. This duck is increasingly threatened in the wild. This is due to the encroachment of urban development and the loss of suitable habitat.
