Blue winged teal

(Anas discors)

A species found primarily in the northern prairies and parklands of central North America. Generally they are the first ducks south in the autumn and the last north in the spring, migrating as far south as central south America. These are dabbling ducks feeding on a diet of aquatic plants, seeds, and large amounts of aquatic invertebrates found in shallowly flooded wetlands. This is a species that I have only seen the once whilst visiting slimbridge but would dearly love to photograph again.
