Bullfinch

My favouite bird and easily our most beautiful native bird. I have the great fortune to be able to get very close to them at Pennington flash where they readily visit the feeding station and nest in the surrounding area. During the winter months there can be up to 2 dozen birds visiting at any one time. Normally in the wild they are very shy, reclusive birds
 
 
 
The photo above shows the male and female Bullfinch in winter plumage. In the summer the males breast (right) is much more colourful. Their preferred food at the bird table is sunflower seeds.
