Female bullfinches have the same patterning as the male but their breast is duller.
 
 
This year at Pennington flash 2005 there are more juveniles around early on. They look similar to the female but they lack the black head. Like most juveniles and, unlike their parents which are not at all vocal and only have the softest of calls,, they are very noisy as they constantly call to be fed.
As with all juveniles though they do learn to feed themselves very quickly
