Caribbean Flamingo

(Phoenicopterus ruber)

Once found breeding in over 40 sites it is now only found in four sites around the Caribbean and Galapagos Islands. It is the tallest of all the flamingoes, related to the greater Flamingo. The habitat is similar to that of its relatives, including saline lagoons, mudflats and shallow brackish coastal or inland lakes. It is the only flamingo that naturally occurs in North America.
