Northern Cinnammon Teal

(Anas cyanoptera Septentrionalium)

There are 5 subspecies of this duck but the Northern is the only species native to north America though it does winter along west coast of Mexico All the other subspecies can be found in South America. I have only seen this duck once at Slimbridge and indeed the photo below is only one of two that I own. This duck has a slightly enlarged bill rather like a small shoveler and feeds on a diet of aquatic plants, seeds and small aquatic invertebrates.
