Eiders breed very well at Martinmere. Most
get reared in the nursery but some nests do go undetected with broods
being raised on the lakes. (photo below) |

Eventually the young ducks are released
onto a lagoon of their own whilst they mature further. These juveniles
are about 3 months old. It will be two years before the males develop
their fine adult plumage. |
