Fulvous whistling duck

(Dendrocygna bicolor)

This is one of the most gregarious and noisy of the Whistling ducks. I also think that it has one of the most beautiful bills of all the ducks. Native to southern central and western states of the US and North Mexico. Commonly feeds at night on waste grain (especially rice), seeds, and structural plant material found in fields and shallow water. It is a slow flyer that carries its legs out behind its body. This is not a threatened bird.
