Gadwall

(Anus strepera)

The photo below shows a male Gadwall. The female is a nondescript brown with a white speculum and yellow sides to the bill. Slightly smaller than a Mallard it is a resident of marshes and waters where there is a growth of reeds. It is a surface feeder. It is also a resident bird though nowhere is it particularly numerous. Size 48-54cms (18-21in)
