Smaller even than the more readily known
Wren, this is the UKs smallest songbird. A resident bird it is found
mainly in coniferous woodland or anywhere that conifers can be fouond
including parks and gardens. During the winter it can be found in the
company of flocks of tits. The population during this time is also boosted
by sometimes large numbers that migrate across from the continent. It
lives on a diet of insects. The population of this bird can suffer dramatically
in harsh winters but milder winters here in the UK in recent years have
enabled the population to thrive. |
