Greenfinches (Carduelis chloris)
A charm of finches really does apply to this lively, gregarious bird. Our commonest finch they are noisy, argumentative but beautiful all at the same time. Their bubbling call as they fly is often heard. They are very sociable birds and often travel around in large flocks.

The male greenfinch (above) is one of our most colourful birds. Bright yellow/green with a flash of yellow on the wings. The female also has the yellow wing flash but is much duller with streaks to the breast. Juvenile Greenfinches are a dull green with a heavily streaked breast. During the winter months they can be commonly seen visiting garden bird feeders and tables where they feed on seeds and peanuts.
