One of two resident species of Partridge
found in the UK. Strictly a ground bird often found in small groups
(Coveys) sometimes containing a dozen or more birds. More likely to
be seen outside the breeding season as they are very wary birds. Breeding
habitats include lowland pastural and cereal fields with thick hedgerows.
Its diet consists of leaves, seeds and insects. Length: 29-31cm. Once
a very common bird it is now on the endangered list. |
