Hawaiian duck

(Anas wyvilliana)

A highly endangered species that is to be found only at a few areas on the Hawaiian Islands. The estimated wild population is put at less than 3000 birds. Its natural habitat is found in both fresh and salt water areas as well as boggy forests. A slightly variable bird with some males being duller than others. The largest threat comes from hybridisation with the Mallard.
