Roosting Lapwings - page 2
Every once in a while we see a spectacle in nature that is truely amazing! Roosting spectacles are often quite a sight to see and with no exception is the roosting of Lapwings and Golden Plovers during winter on the roof of our local Tyre centre. These birds have been roosting here for at least 2 years. As the sun goes down around 400 birds can be seen circling around getting ready to settle on the roof. The photo above was taken in the morning and there are only a few birds but at dusk the roof is completely covered with birds. These birds disappear in early spring to move back to their breeding grounds.
In the photos above and below youcan see Golden Plovers mixed in with the Lapwings. Golden Plovers, who also form large flocks in winter can often be seen with Lapwings. Unlike the lapwing however the plover breeds on moorland.
