Lesser Flamingo

Widely distributed through eastern, central and southern Africa. Found in vast numbers on the Rift Valley lakes, particularly those which are relatively shallow. Its diet is made up exclusively of Spirulina plantensis, one of the blue-green algaes. They swim well and are able to forage over the complete surface of a lake. A highly greagrious bird. Height 101cms.
