The female is quite different to the male.
She is smaller and is mottled brown in colour in order to camoflague
herself when she is sat on the nest. She is also much more vocal than
the male. |

Like the male the female also hybridises
with other breeds and can produce some interesting looking hybrids.
Unlike the male though the female does not have the curly tail feathers.
