Mellers duck

(anas melleri)

Found in Eastern Madagascar and Mauritius this is a dabbling duck that prefers open ponds, bays and sluggish streams. Its diet consists of aquatic plants and seeds. Nowhere is it found in large numbers with it mainly being found in pairs or small parties. During the breeding season it is highly territorial and nests in dense vegetation. This duck is classified as vulnerable as it is under constant threat from hunting. The sexes are alike.
