Mistlethrush

(Turdus viscivorus)

The largest and most aggressive of our resident thrushes found mainly in parks, gardens and near woodland. Will often perch in a tree in stormy weather singing its warbling song, hence its traditional name of "stormcock" It also has a very distinctive loud rattling call. In winter it can be found in loose flocks of several birds. Its diet consists of worms, slugs, insects and berries. Can be distinguished from the song thrush by its larger leaner shape, greyer colour and more triangular shaped spots on its breast. Length: 27cm.
