A fairly large and very distinction black
and white wader. A resident bird it can be seen commonly in most coastal
regions. It breeds on shingle, beaches and salt marshes on the coast
or on shingle banks of rivers, lakes and gravel pits inland. Its diet
consists of mussels and cockles on the coast and mainly worms inland.
It has a loud, shrill, piping ‘kleep-kleep' call. |
