A summer visitor seen April to September that is found largely in the west of the country with the valleys of Wales being a stronghold and winters in West Africa. Found mainly in mature woodland. Its diet consists of insects and caterpillers and will supplement its diet with fruits and seeds on migration. The male is black and white (below) with the females being much more brown. Juveniles are similar to female with more speckling below.Slightly smaller than a sparrow. Length 13cms.
