Pink footed goose

(Anser brachyrhynchus)

A medium sized goose that is more commonly seen in the UK during the winter months after migrating from their breeding grounds in Spitsbergen, Iceland and Greenland. They arrive in October and they return in April. They breed on rivers and lakes but in the winter can be found on hilly areas, moors, lowland marshes, arable farmland, particularly potatoes and carrot fields and roosts on estuaries, mudflats and freshwater lakes. Their diet consists of grain, winter cereals, potatoes and grass.
